Owning your own home is one of the few goals we all share. And when it’s time to buy a home, you have a lot of decisions to make and including whether or not you will go the traditional real estate route, or if you will take advantage of the great home values that are available from home investment companies. If you’ve never bought from a home investor, you may be wondering, “Is it safe to buy my home from a home investor?”
When many people think of home investment companies, they may think of a somewhat sketchy operation that takes advantage of homeowners who are down on their luck. The image of a cheap placard on the corner with I Buy Homes scrawled across may come to mind. These factors may make buying a home from a home investor seems a little scary.
While the guys with the street corner placards might technically fall into the same category, it’s important to note that reputable Dallas home investment companies are much, much more than that. In fact, buying from a home investment company can be a tremendous way to find and purchase your next home.
What to Look for in a Home Investment Company
- Work with a Licensed Broker
If you’re considering purchasing your next home from a home investment company, first ensure they are a licensed real estate broker. Doing so means you’ll be working with someone who’s been licensed by the Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC). The TREC was established over sixty-five (65) years ago to ensure real estate consumers are protected.
- Watch out for Flippers
Work with a home investment company that’s not just “in it to flip it.” Doing so will ensure you won’t purchase a home that’s received minimal “touch-ups” to fleece the buyer for a quick buck. Having a quality, licensed home inspector will protect against this.
- Ask for References
Get a list of people who bought homes from the investment company. Ask questions, understand what their overall experience was like. Questions now can mean fewer issues later.
For most people, a home is the single largest investment of their life. When it comes to selling or buying their home, the stakes are high and so are the stress levels. Buying a home from a reputable, licensed home investment company shouldn’t add to that stress.
